Abstract

The article demonstrates a case of clinical picture Meigs syndrome, discusses the causes of errors of diagnosis of this condition. Meigs described the syndrome (synonyms: Meigs-Salmon, Demons-Meigs), characterized by the formation of ascites and pleural effusion in patients with benign solid tumor of the ovary. In the future, Meigs' syndrome was seen as a condition of ascites, hydrothorax and phenomena of exhaustion with benign ovarian tumors and cancer. This syndrome were described in patients with malignant ovarian tumor, but without evidence of metastatic disease. R.W.Light expanded the concept of the syndrome, believing that all cases of pelvic tumors, accompanied by ascites and pleural effusion, can be attributed to the syndrome Meigs, if surgical extirpation of the tumor provides the resolution of ascites and pleural effusion . Variant syndrome was described in the cases when the clinic was similar to the Salmon-Meigs' syndrome, but the ovaries were no degenerative changes of the tumor. Meigs' syndrome most often occurs in patients with ovarian fibroma, make up about 4% of all ovarian tumors, on the second place - ovarian cyst and 3 - leiomyoma of the uterus.
